Circumcision not Covered By Insurance what did you do?

This question is for women who have had their boys circumcised but wasnt covered by insurance. This is my fourth pregnancy and 3rd boy. My other two were circumcised and covered by insurance both done at the hospital and recovery was easy and fast. I just check with my insurance (blue cross of California) and circumcision is not covered under my plan. I am willing to pay out of pocket but do not know how to go about arranging. Will the hospital do it if I pay cash? I'm assuming $1000 or do I set up an appointment with a pediatrician and tell them I'm paying cash? I want this done asap after birth because I've heard the longer you wait the harder it is on baby for recovery.

With my first, it wasn't covered with my insurance. So we payed out of pocket. It was $350. We payed in advance just so I wouldn't forget to and because I wanted to go ahead while I had the cash on me to pay. So at my last doctors visit before I had him, I payed then and got a receipt. I took him in the first following business day after I got out of the hospital with him and my OB did it at her office (which was technically at the hospital, but in a different building.) But this time around, my insurance is covering it because they started doing that again! I was thrilled to find that out because that saved us a pretty penny! So we're just going to get it done while we're still in the hospital before we go home. Talk to your OB about it and see what he/she suggests!

What hospital and state was that at if you don't mind me asking? I'm with Sutter medical in California.

I'm in Louisiana, and it was at the Woman's Hospital.

With our boys we only payed $200 to have theirs done in the hospital. . We also payed in advance so there wouldn't be any issues later. Just call the hospital you will deliver at and ask if you can pay in advance.

Violation Reported

I would start off asking your OB at the next appointment if they do circumcisions and if you can pay cash my OB posted a sign saying that they no longer do circumcisions but when I asked him about it he said he'll do it at the hospital it just has to be paid in cash

That's different. It's either a urologist with my first one, or a pediatrician with my 2nd. I wasn't sure if I should pick a pediatrician and schedule with them or ask the hospital. guess I have some calls to make.

Violation Reported

At our hospital OBs do it only - no peds.

It's funny here it's usually done in the hospital by OB's put pediatricians are starting to do it to one did you choose a pediatrician yet? If so call the office and ask them if they do them in the hospital and what they charge

Violation Reported

I've never heard of an ob doing it. Last time it was a pediatrician.

Ours will be less than $200 and we pre-pay with the OB office. I'd ask OB.

It's $400 at the hospital I'm delivering at if insurance doesn't cover. Ask your OB, they are the ones who told me the cost (it was in the packet I got at my first appointment). I'm having a girl, though, so I don't have to worry about this.

Forgot to mention I have Florida Blue which Blue Cross Blue Shield

You can have the hospital do it and have them bill you. Ask your ob at your next appointment for options.

Violation Reported

We paid $250. The hospital doesn't do it and the pediatrician doesn't like to do it before two weeks of age. I wish they would just do it there to get it done and or with.

I'm with Sutter too (Sacramento) and was told at the birthing class that its waaaay cheaper to have their pediatrician do it about a week after they are born in their office. I have a meet and greet with my Sutter pediatrician at the end of this month to discuss and pre-arrange it.

Violation Reported @mikaelak15,

Can you please tell me I am also in Sacramento and use Sutter are doctors offices 354 I'm trying to find something else more affordable

This is a bit of a rant/vent and a bit of needing some honest advice. My question is- am I wrong for wanting to make big decisions like naming the baby and deciding whether to/not to circumcise against by boyfriend's wishes? My boyfriend and.
